I can’t believe my Corolla kept going on the shattered remains of a driver’s side CV joint like this. It started vibrating really badly on the turnpike the other day, and I looked under it and saw the boot had shredded and all the oil had come out. ‘Oh, the CVs are going bad’ I thought. That happens all the time on FWD cars.
But this is worse than just ‘going bad’; the joint is separated and all the parts inside the black boot are gone. I had a Ford Aspire once that immediately stalled once it’s CVs went bad, but this thing just...just kept on going...

Drove my Passat (only new car I ever bought, huge mistake) until the cv joint broke. The only instance in a lifetime of dozens of crappy beaters where I remember broken parts falling onto the road like a cartoon. I coasted up to the curb by my house anyway. I got the maximum fun out of those CV joints, & went back & picked up the bits.
